Refractory Boards

We have developed an enormous variety of refractory boards over the years, covering about 18 projects. We can therefore supply just about anything you want; Vermiculite Board, Perlite boards, Keratuff boards, Baking Trays, Synwood boards, abrasion resistant boards, Cuttlelite Board, Insulag boards, microporous boards, “magnesite boards”, intumescent boards. You name it , we can make it.We stock also ceramic fibre boards, asbestos boards, resin impregnated moulding boards, Skinsafe boards and sometimes we have batts in stock. We can supply at short notice from our assosciates; Monolite, calcium silicate, high density calcium silicate, polyurethane boards, Nefalit, Millboard, Neftex, Sindanyo equivalent, mica boards, Isomag, and others. We also make a lot of composite boards, for example ceramic fibre or rockwool with abrasion resistant coatings. A lot of our products are reinforced with scrim, stitched fibreglass mat, unwoven textiles, various organic or ceramic fibres or steel fibres. Our most exciting new boards are Keraforce boards, with the rigidity of ceramic but ultralight and cheap. They beat steel in rigidity per rand.

Vermiculite Board

Description; A backup insulation board made of potassium silicate bonded vermiculite. Eliminates the cracking and wedging problems experienced with calcium silicate board, and is easier to fit anchors through.    Maximum Services Temperature:   1100 C

Cuttle Board

A super light fireproof board. The closest familiar substance would be cuttlefish shell:It is easily dented by fingernail, but Cannot be deformed by finger pressure. It is not brittle; a hammer blow will dent tit not shatter it. It will absorb lots of water but still float .It will take an impression. It will easily accept nails and drywall screws. It has negligible abrasion resistance; can be cut, filed and sanded. It is so non-toxic as to be edible. It is non-flammable, and gives off only a small amount of vapours when heated. It has good acoustic properties. The density is around 0,4kg / litre.

Baking Trays

“Baking trays” are actually slabs for lining stainless baking trays. They are made of a refractory material designed for the highest possible thermal mass. In other words they retain a lot of heat. If you place pastry directly onto hot steel it burns, especially the edges. Baking trays distribute the heat evenly and regulate the speed of heat flow into the pastry. The density is very high, about 2.8kg/litre.Baking trays have a layer of fiberglass scrim in the middle, so that if they crack they do not break. They are also used in electric pizza ovens. The surface is porous and can absorb fats. The top surface on which you bake is smooth and the bottom surface is rough. The sizes are 15mm, 20mm and 25mm thick. Slabs are cast to order, to fit your oven, so there is no cutting and wastage.   25mm slabs are mainly used as pizza oven floor tiles, and 500mm x 500mm tiles are kept in stock. 50mm tiles are used as Coke Wharf Tiles, which get covered with yellow hot burning coke which then gets quenched with water. The thermal shock resistance spec is 900°C into water 30times without breaking. 900°C is the maximum continuous service temperature, but the material can withstand 2000°C for the short retention periods of hermit reactions, because crucibles of this material can absorb and dissipate so much heat. The color is dark brown and the top surface is smooth enough to show reflections. The particles are coarse. Baking trays can be trimmed or cut with difficulty with an angle grinder, but easily cut if you use a diamond blade.
