Keratuff For Aluminium Launders
Keratuff For Aluminium Launders
Keratuff For Aluminium Launders
Keratuff boasts an extraordinarily high strength-to-density ratio, making it perfect for thin-walled structures like launders or runners. It possesses a closed pore, fine microstructure, resulting in superior thermal insulation attributes. When utilized as a launder, it substantially minimizes the molten metal's heat losses and prevents easy formation of skull. Keratuff is non-reactive to aluminum, ensuring a clean, smooth, and swift flow of metal. Such features prevent freezing of the metal in well-managed operations, obviating the need for cleaning. You can effortlessly patch Keratuff by hand using keratuff itself, enhanced by fibres protruding from broken surfaces, although fibres do not protrude from the surface of cast or plastered surfaces. This process is quick to dry and does not require preheating or drying. It can be easily cut or machined and is free from asbestos and non-toxic. The above elucidates that Keratuff is fundamentally better than dense castables, possesses all the essential traits for aluminum launders, and should be handled differently. It should be used as a durable lining and not as a disposable material. Comprehensive technical specifications can be found in the Keratuff datasheet.
A coating of Aluminium Non-Wetting Paint can be added to enhance the non adhesion of a film of aluminium on the launder.
Keratuff has an exceptionally high strength to density ratio, which makes it suitable for thin walled shapes such as launders or runners.Keratuff has a very fine microstructure of closed pores which, gives it excellent thermal insulation properties. Used as a launder, the heat losses of the molten metal are considerably reduced and skull does not form easily.
Ketatuff is non-wetting to aluminum, so that the metal flows cleanly, smoothly and rapidly.
The above factors eliminate metal freezing in a well-controlled operation, so that no cleaning is ever required.
Keratuff is very easily patched by hand, using keratuff. The bond is assisted by fibres which, protrude from broken surfaces. (Fibres do not protrude from the surface of cast or plastered surfaces.) Patching dries easily and rapidly. Preheat or drying is not deemed necessary.
Keratuff can easily be cut or machined. It is asbestos free and non-toxic.
From the above it will be clear that Keratuff is fundamentally superior to dense castables, has all the ideal characteristics for aluminium launders, and should be treated very differently. Keratuff should be treated as a permanent lining, not a short-lived consumable material.
Full technical specifications are available on the Keratuff data sheet.
